Holiday Resort Unity, Brean Sands, Somerset have teamed up with Burnham on sea police to promote a scheme to deal with guests who display anti social or unacceptable behaviour whilst on holiday. Unity is piloting the scheme called “Sitewatch” over the 2010 Summer period with a view to rolling out to our holiday districts thoughout the country next year.
It allows Park Managers, Security Team and Wardens to issue a series of notices, starting with Green followed by Amber and finally a Red Notice advising guests that they or a member of their group are displaying anti social or unacceptable behaviour. It warns them of the consequences and that continued breaches of the site rules will result in them being asked to leave.
Details of guests that are asked to leave are then shared with other holiday parks who have joined in the scheme. This information sharing ensures that unwelcomed guests are not pushed onto other holiday park operators and will encourage them to leave the area.
Andy Kerslake the Security Co ordinator at Unity came up with the idea and explains “Historically these types of problems have been dealt with on an individual park basis. On the rare occasions we experience these type of problems such as excessive noise late at night, disruptive or unsupervised children causing a nuisance, dogs barking etc, they can all spoil your holiday experience, here at Unity we want everybody to enjoy their time with us.
The scheme allows us to deal with the problem without bothering or tying up valuable police resources. The feedback from our customers has been extremely positive, they clearly welcome this process. We have a series of posters displayed around the park that explains the scheme so nobody is left in any doubt. We have also incorporated it into our booking agreement so our guests understand that when they arrive they are expected to abide by the terms and conditions of the park.
So far 12 holiday park operators have signed up in the Brean area alone; it is our intention to evaluate the scheme in consultation with the police at the end of the season to roll out nationally.
Should anybody else want to find out more or join the scheme, I would welcome a call, you can contact me on 01278 752009.”
Sector Inspector Roger Tolley of Burnham on Sea Police comments “this scheme has the potential to be a really effective tool in improving the quality and enjoyment of holiday makers by quickly identifying and challenging the small minority of disrespectful and disruptive visitors to our area. I am very excited by this innovative piece of work being delivered by Andy Kerslake, his team, other holiday providers from the area and the local policing team. I believe the effects of this initiative on the whole community for visitors and residents alike will be really positive. It is another demonstration of why this area is recognized for its excellence in delivering a quality experience to everyone we all come into contact with.
