Brean Play and Brean Splash launch Sensory Guides

Brean Play and Brean Splash have launched sensory guides to assist anyone planning on visiting the attractions that may have sensory needs.

The guides detail what visitors can expect to see, hear, smell, taste and touch from arriving at the car park through to using the facilities, and will assist children and adults alike that may have a sensory processing disorder.

Some people with a sensory processing disorder are oversensitive to things in their environment, and things such as common sounds may be painful or overwhelming.  The idea of the guides is to prepare visitors in advance which will make it easier for them to enjoy a day out, as they have an expectation of what they may experience.

Sarah House, Director of the attractions said “Both Brean Play and Brean Splash are quite large attractions with a lot going on, and they can get very busy.  We appreciate that this may be very unsettling to any visitor that has sensory needs or social anxieties and we hope that by producing these guides it will assist people coming to visit us, whether from our local community or people that may be staying in the area on holiday”

The guides support the newly launched SEND sessions, which now take place at Brean Play once a month. These bespoke sessions are open to children and young adults that special educational needs, with all areas of Brean Play being open to all ages, a mini disco and a quiet room. Brean Splash currently run a disabled session weekly on a Wednesday morning term time between 10-11am.

Brean Play and Brean Splash are part of family owned business Holiday Resort Unity, which is committed to access and inclusivity across all operations, with staff members representing all departments trained as Dementia Friends and receiving autism awareness training.

All facilities have level access and disabled toilet and changing facilities.

If you have any specific accessibility requirements prior to visiting, please get in touch with their team who can advise. The sensory guides can be found online here:
