This weekend, all number of sporting stars past and present will take part in the 29th staging of the annual Sports Celebrity AM event at Brean Golf Club. Once again the event, which takes place on Wednesday June 12th ,will be raising funds for two causes, The Injured Jockeys Fund and St Margaret’s Hospice, two charities very close to the hearts of the House family.
Headlining the celebrities is former Champion Jockey John Francome MBE.
Francome promised to return to take part after performing the opening ceremony on the brand new multi million pound Country Club building back in February which will host the entire day for the first time. Joining him will be a selection of jockeys and trainers all coming to support the cause.
Other sports are well represented too with Gloucester Rugby’s Matt Banahan making his first appearance in the event. Somerset County Cricket have two representatives on the tee with Pete Trego, fresh from One Day Cup glory with Somerset at Lords recently, and 20/20 specialist Max Waller hoping to show their prowess with a smaller dimpled version of a ball.
Former Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town footballer Tony Pounder is looking to repeat his 2018 success, whilst representing the red side of Bristol will be City’s former defender Gary Owers.
World Darts Champion Bob Anderson always supports the event whenever he can and is back to compete along with a sprinkling of local PGA professionals to accompany the 25 teams of 3 on the golf course.
The golfing action gets underway at 12.30pm with a shotgun start and spectators are welcome to attend.
