Camping certainly isn’t to everyone’s taste, so when it was suggested with all this great weather we have been having that we do an off the cuff camping holiday, I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired.

To start with, we don’t even own a tent … No need, I was told to search for a last minute camping pod holiday in Somerset, and came across Holiday Resort Unity.

A camping pod is basically a wooden tent, or, a shed with a bed as I like to call it.

A camping pod holiday is perfect if, like me, sleeping under canvas isn’t for you, or you are taking that first step into the camping world. I know many a friend who has been out and spent good money on a tent and some decent airbeds only for them to end up on the local buy and sell sites after just one trip.

Firstly, we live in Britain, so there is always the weather to contend with. Then there is the putting up the tent itself… there’s a fall out waiting to happen in my family. Not only that, you get held up in traffic and arrive late, the children are tired, it may be starting to get dark, or raining, or windy, or a combination of all three, and before you can do anything you have to get the tent up. Next, the air beds…. However much money people spend on them, you fall asleep in luxurious bounce and wake up in the morning deflated and flat on the floor. Plus, we are part of the digital revolution, so there is device charging to think of.

But, all these issues can be put aside on a camping pod holiday in Brean!

Shaped beautifully like a church window (you can stand upright!) these gorgeous wooden pods overlook the fishing lake and the pretty surroundings. Fully insulted, with heat, light, and electricity, you will find two single beds, with a double bed at the back of the pod. Proper, off the floor beds with mattresses, no deflating in the night!

Like with camping, you still need to take all your bedding, your camping stove, pans, towels, etc., but that major inconvenience of putting tents and airbeds up and down has gone immediately. It doesn’t matter what the weather is like, you won’t have to get up at 5am in the morning to avoid being cooked under canvas if it’s hot, you won’t have to avoid touching the sides of the tent if it’s wet, or go to bed with three hot water bottles if it’s cold.

The front doors open onto a small covered and decked area with storage seating so you can securely keep bits and pieces, and then there is an outdoor table and chairs to enjoy dining al fresco or watching the world go by and chat to the resident ducks and geese (but please don’t feed them because it encourages the seagulls!). You can also park right next to your pod.

With excellent toilet, shower and washing up facilities all close by, a planned or a last minute camping pod holiday is ideal as a taster or even if you are a seasoned camper. The camping pods are cosy – great fun for families but also not to be discounted for a romantic getaway either!

Book your camping pod holiday in the UK at Holiday Resort Unity and you can also enjoy discounted entry to Brean Splash and Brean Play, a round of golf. Whatever your age, there is something going on day and night if you want to take part, or, similarly, if you do want to enjoy the peace and quiet, the camping pods are ideally situated far enough away from the hustle and bustle.
