You might have seen that last month we teamed up with Secret World Wildlife Rescue to open a Secret Wood here at Holiday Resort Unity. Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the main holiday resort and Brean Leisure Park, we have created a little haven for wildlife, a site used not only to release wild animals who have been rescued and rehabilitated, but also to encourage further wildlife and extend out commitment to protecting our local environment.
In 2019 we plan to host a series of Forest School type events throughout the season, and to introduce this to our guests, we are going to launch the programme with a Wildlife Walk on Saturday 3rdNovember, open to families who are staying on site at Holiday Resort Unity.
The walk will start at the underpass between the holiday park and Brean Leisure Park, where Secret World Rescue Centre will be giving talks and demonstrations to the groups before we set off.
We will then be walking along the dog walk where we will be asking you to not only spot real life nature, but also some of our “willow wildlife”, explaining to you how important wildlife is to us, and asking you some questions to test your nature knowledge! We will stop off at the bee hives before making our way across to the Secret Wood, where there will be more willow wildlife to spot!
You then get the fantastic opportunity to see a display by Paul Golledge from Birds of Prey Discovery who will be accompanied by Nutmeg the Tawny Owl and Stan the Kestrel, before being split into two teams and gathering materials to make your own den!
The session will be finished off with hot chocolate and marshmallows toasted on the campfires that you have created.
We will be running two sessions, one at 10am and the second at 3pm and numbers are limited, so please make sure you book your place at Reception. Suitable for aged 4 years and over, and whilst dogs are welcome on the first part of the walk, they are not permitted into the Secret Wood due to the wildlife habitats.
The later 3pm session will also include a night vision walk (subject to suitable conditions).
As a taster, there is no charge for this event!
Please make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear. All children must be accompanied with a parent or guardian.
