Burnham-on-Sea Attractions – What to Do?

There is loads of stunning attractions to explore and things to do in Burnham-on-Sea, such as the following:

1. The Seafront and The ‘Pier'

The seafront at Burnham-on-Sea has a wide, flat, accessible tarmac pavement. This stretches right from the edge of Maddocks Slade/Seaview Road (towards the beach lighthouse) along the Esplanade to the Yacht Club, where the River Brue and River Parrett join the Severn Estuary. This is a perfect place for family walks and enjoying the seaside views while stopping for snacks or ice cream along the way.

One well-known feature jutting out of the centre of the Esplanade at Burnham-on-Sea, standing on legs in the sand, is Britain's shortest pier! Built between 1911 and 1914, and the first concrete structure of its kind in Europe, it has long been home to the Pavilion amusement arcade and has a covered, sheltered area outside where you can stop for food and refreshments.

2. Burnham-on-Sea Low Lighthouse

This iconic lighthouse was built in 1832 and is still active to this day. It’s the perfect backdrop for a holiday photo and a reminder of your coastal trip for later. It’s nine metres tall and is mounted on nine timber pilings.

The lighthouse on legs on the beach at one end of the sands at Burnham and the jetty at the other mark the boundaries of the most popular area for families to walk, play, or just sit and enjoy the sunshine as the waves lap on the shore.

3. Burnham-on-Sea Beach

Burnham-on-Sea Beach and Brean Beach both offer a safe, fun place for the kids to enjoy themselves outdoors. All but one section (from the Pier to the jetty) is dog-friendly in the summer season.

Another reason why Burnham-on-Sea Beach is great, is because it’s less busy than Weston-super-Mare which can get packed with tourists. This makes it great for a relaxing day at the beach, a splash in the sea with your family or partner or for a lovely scenic walk in Somerset.

Additionally, it’s vital to check the tide times, as lifeguards are only present from May until September.

4. Holiday Resort Unity

Nestled on the Somerset coast, just a short distance from Burnham-on-Sea, Holiday Resort Unity offers the ideal balance of family fun and relaxation. The beach is just your doorstep, along with everything you could need to complete your holiday; from bowling to fishing; rollercoasters to evening entertainment and a range of restaurants.

For families, Brean Splash is lovely as it has indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides, mini slides, and a tipping bucket. The fantastic indoor pool is 25 metres long, is heated at 30ºC and is only 1.2 metres deep (making it kid- and toddler-friendly). The outdoor seaside swimming pool is ideal for fun in the sun for the kiddies and is open from June until August.

5. The Ritz Cinema

If you’re looking for something fun to do in Burnham-on-Sea’s town centre, then it’s definitely worth checking out the Ritz Cinema. This independent cinema has a retro design, affordable tickets and a range of snacks and drinks.

Additionally, they screen a variety of movies, from kid’s animation and classics to blockbusters and plays from the National Theatre.

Burnham-on-Sea Holiday Accommodation – Where To Stay?

Holiday Resort Unity is ideally placed for families to enjoy days out in Burnham-on-Sea and Brean. Situated on the coast road, it is just a short bus ride to Burnham-on-Sea, a short walk into Brean in the opposite direction, and a short bus ride to the popular seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare.

HRU offers a range of holiday accommodation across its three sites including camping and touring pitches, including the following:

Our pods come with a variety of amenities including electricity, heating, an outdoor table, a parking spot, microwave, cutlery and a fridge, depending on the budget you’re working with.

The barrel pods are the most basic, but can sleep four and electricity is included. Secondly, our camping pods come with an outside patio, heating and electricity. Lastly, our camping pods plus option comes with an open-plan sleeping area, a sink, fridge, kettle, microwave, electricity and heating.

5. Brean Country Club

Finally, for our most luxurious experience, you can stay in one of our lodges at Brean Country Club. We have a variety of lodges, each with its own theme and they can sleep anywhere from two to six people.

It’s definitely one of the most relaxing options we have in terms of accommodation, as they all come with spacious bedrooms, modern, fully-equipped kitchens, en-suite bathrooms and free Wi-Fi.

What’s more, all our lodges have flat-screen TVs (some have TVs in each room), premium finishing and are in close proximity to Brean Golf Club.
